NO EXIT and friends open Cleveland State concert season

The Cleveland Stater Vol. 20 No. 1

The Cleveland Contemporary Players Artist in Residence Series presents its first concert of the 2018-19 season, and it is going to be big.

NO EXIT, a new music ensemble, is a Cleveland-based music group that specializes in performing contemporary and avant-garde concert music, and others, will be at Cleveland State University on Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m.

Ars Futura, another Cleveland ensemble, Transient Canvas from Boston, and Zeitgeist from Minneapolis-St. Paul will also participate as collaborating guest ensembles, and all are nationally known.

Frederick Rzewski’s rarely performed solo piano piece, “The People United Will Never Be Defeated,” will be performed by Geoffrey Burleson.

The Boston Globe has referred to Burleson as a “remarkable pianist” and “a first-class instrumental presence”, while The New York Times has praised his performances as “vibrant” and “compelling.”

The concert will also include a premier of Gred D’Alessio’s “Running with the Devil”, as well as “American Monster” by Cleveland State’s Andrew Rindfleisch, Ph.D., coordinator of the Music Composition Program, founder and music director of the Cleveland Contemporary Players, and the director of the Cleveland State University’s Music Composition Recourse Center.

This event will be held in Cleveland State’s Drinko Hall in the Music and Communication Building, 2001 Euclid Ave., and is free and open to the public.
